Honor Killings in Iran as a Threat to Women’s Lives
Given the numerous cases of femicide under the pretext of preserving honor in various cities of Iran and the lack of attention from authorities to prevent its recurrence, a session addressing this horrific phenomenon was held at the annual United Nations meeting on women’s issues on March 8. The session examined the legal and cultural dimensions of this issue and proposed necessary measures for its prevention.
Concurrently, a virtual UN session titled “Empowering African Women by the Imam Ali Population” was held with the participation of civil and women’s rights activists. The session outlined the various stages of this project, including education aimed at improving nutrition and empowering women, as well as the process of initiating social entrepreneurship for them, with a focus on food preparation. This multi-year project was presented alongside an explanation of the social and economic conditions of these women and their children.
