The first day of spring is the start of the new year for Persians. Nowruz, or “new day” in Persian, is an ancient festival that marks the beginning of spring and celebrates the rebirth of nature. It is an indescribable element of the original Iranian culture that keeps our linkage with our country’s past, and outlines the path to our future culture.
Most of Persians have great memories of Nowruz celebration with traditions like the arranging Haftseen table which is decorated with seven items and visiting their relatives and friends. Unfortunately, there are children who don’t have a chance to celebrate it with their families due to poverty. A lot of them stay in the streets during the New Year holiday hoping to make money wishing happiness for others in the New Year.
What is burning down and falling apart is the childhood of these children. Each one of these children has a potential to have a bright future.
If we give a gift of sweet memories to those kids today, we will have a healthier and more successful community tomorrow.
How can we start a good year if the heart of our children are broken?
IAPSRS has been celebrating the Persian New Year Nowruz with deprived children since 2010.
Our volunteers organize entertaining events in each city to create beautiful memories for the children.
